Abstract: We evaluate the asymmetric impact of the second wave of COVID-19 on the spot electricity price in India. The estimated nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag model shows that both positive and negative shocks from the COVID-19 pandemic reduce the long-run spot electricity price. Surprisingly, the COVID-19 negative shock outweighs its positive shock. This result shows the detrimental effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the spot electricity price, which policymakers in India should not overlook.
