The Asia-Pacific Applied Economics Association (APAEA) is committed to protecting the personal information collected from website users and its members. By submitting your information to APAEA, you consent to the practices described in this policy. Those under 18 years of age are not allowed to use our Site and may email their requests to APAEA explaining the need to use the Site.

1. Data Collection & Cookies

APAEA may collect personal information directly from your verbal or written input (such as by consenting to receiving marketing emails or completing online forms).

Additionally, APAEA’s website uses cookies for core functions, such as loading public pages, processing member login, and maintaining site performance.  

2. Information You Provide

The types of personal information that APAEA collects directly from you may include:

  • Contact details (your name, co-authors/members names,user affiliation(s), job title, email address, postal address and telephone number
  • Educational, professional, and research interests
  • Usernames
  • Payment information, such as those related to debit or credit cards
  • Communication preferences
  • Research interests

In order to access certain content and to make use of additional features of our website and services, the APAEA Site will askYou to register for an account by completing and submitting a registration form which may request additional information.

3. Use of Your Information

APAEA may use your personal information in the performance of any contract we enter into with You, to comply with legal obligations, or where APAEA has a legitimate business interest in using your information to enhance the services and products we provide, such as promotion and marketing of international conferences;  modifying, improving or personalizing our services, products and communications; detecting fraud; investigating suspicious activity (e.g., violations of our Terms of Service, see www.a-paea.org\privacy[pn1] ) and otherwise keeping our site safe and secure, and conducting data analytics.

In addition, we may use your information in the following ways (after obtaining your consent, if required):

  • To provide you with information about products and services that you request from us;
  • To provide you with information about other products, events and services we offer that are either (i) similar to those you have already purchased or inquired about, or (ii) new products, events and services
  • For internal business and research purposes to help enhance, evaluate, develop, and create APAEA webpages (including usage statistics, such as "page views" on APAEA's website and the products therein), products, and services
  • To notify you about changes or updates to our website, products, or services
  • To administer our services and for internal operations, including troubleshooting, testing, and survey purposes
  • For any other purpose that we may notify you of from time to time.

APAEA will only retain your personal information until it is needed for the purpose for which it was collected.It follows that unless information must be retained for legal or archival purposes, personal information will be securely destroyed from APAEA's database when it is no longer required. You can also request to have your personal information erased from APAEA’s database at any time by writing to APAEA at contact.apaea@gmail.com.

4. Disclosure & Sharing Your Information

APAEA does not share (sell) or trade Your data details including email ID with other APAEA members or any third party. The exception is when there are lawful requests by public authorities and government agencies, including to meet national security or law enforcement requirements, in order to comply with a particular legal process. In such cases, we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, to enforce our Terms of Service, or to protect the rights, property or safety of our services, users or others; and/or to investigate fraud.

5. Cross Border Transfers

In order to process your transactions (for all APAEA related business), APAEA may transfer your personal information outside of your country of residence. We may store your personal information on our server(s). Such processing may include, among other things,Your conference registration payment and payments for all other related services as listed on our Site.

By submitting your personal information, You agree to this transfer, storing or processing of your information. We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your personal information is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy and all applicable data protection laws.

6. Your Rights

You may review or change your preferences towards how APAEA communicates with youby using, for example, the unsubscribe mechanism or other means provided within the communications that you receive from APAEA or by sending an email to contact.apaea@gmail.com. APAEA may still, due to need, communicate with you for any transaction related matters.

As a APAEA member, You have the right to view, remove, or update contact information, usernames, or passwords from Your APAEA account(s). Details on how to do this are on the Site. Users can create multiple accounts provided that each account has a unique email ID.

Users have the right to unsubscribe from future marketing emails. To unsubscribe, individuals should click the "Unsubscribe"[pn2]  link at the bottom of an email received from the APAEA or simply write to us at contact.apaea@gmail.com

7. Third-Parties

APAEA may contract third parties to provide services to our members such as conference hosting, paper editing and proof reading, and publication of journal(s). All third party vendors are vetted and meet data security standards and regulations to the best of APAEA’s investigation capacities. These third parties are, however, not covered by APAEA’s privacy policy. You may read their website for details where needed on privacy policy.

8. Privacy Policy Changes

APAEA reserves the right to modify its Privacy Policy at any time without notice. Any modifications to Policy will become effective on the date it is posted here. It is the responsibility of the Users to review this page and be familiar with APAEA’s Privacy Policy.

9. Refunds Policy

Payment for each service has a refundable and a non-refundable component. All refund requests must be received within 5 days of subscribing to and paying for a service. All such requests will be considered promptly by APAEA and processed accordingly. If the service for which you requested has not been delivered within 5 days of your refund request, a refund will be processed for the work not completed. The non-refundable part refers to all fixed costs (including transaction costs) involved in offering you (or have begun to offer you) a service and will be decided depending on the nature of service requested and the progress made on delivering you the service. All conference registration fees are fully refunded (minus any transaction costs) within 5 days of making payment. No refunds are permissible after 5 days have lapsed following the date when a payment is made.

Where Users do not prefer a refund, APAEA will offer them a voucher of the amount paid for a service for any future use (within the preceding 12 months) of any one of APAEA’s services.
