Professor Paresh Narayan discussed his new research on how the global travel and
leisure industry's profits changed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. His research
covers over 700 companies from 64 countries, and discusses new approaches to
modeling performance when faced by a crisis. In the second part of his presentation, he
discussed: (a) the effects of monetary policy tightening in Australia/NZ on Fiji's tourism
industry; (b) possible implications of Fiji Airways flight diversification; (c) effects of Asian
tourism competition on Fiji's tourism industry; and (d) feasibility of taxation on Fiji's
tourism industry.
